The Billings Ovulation Method™ is used by millions of women around the world. It was developed by Drs John and Evelyn Billings, beginning in 1953, validated by eminent international scientists, and successfully trialed by the World Health Organization. By learning to identify their natural signals of fertility, women can use the Method, consisting of the application of four common sense guidelines, to become pregnant or avoid pregnancy and to safeguard their reproductive health.
For further information on the science behind the Method, list of accredited teachers, affiliated organizations around the world, teacher training workshops, internet instruction using the App Fertility Pinpoint, trademarked authentic Billings materials, videos, audio visual presentations and e-books, please visit http://www.thebillingsovulationmethod.org.
The book, “The Billings Method” by Dr. Evelyn Billings is available in most libraries. However, the help of an accredited teacher is indispensable especially at times of irregular cycles when ovulation is delayed: breastfeeding, post-partum, pre-menopause, recovering from extreme athletic and emotional stress. About Natural Family Planning
No longer “guess work,” Natural Family Planning (NFP) is an effective, scientifically based method of family planning that treats fertility as a normal, healthy process. Northwest Family Services teaches the Sympto-Thermal Method which is based on changes in a woman’s cervical mucus, waking or resting temperature, and cervix. These observable signs change in response to the hormones of the menstrual cycle. It only takes seconds a day for a woman to track her fertility; then the couple interprets the chart and makes a decision based on their family planning intention. NFP works through periodic abstinence during the method-defined fertile time for couples who are avoiding a pregnancy. NFP can be used effectively throughout a woman’s entire reproductive life. Regular cycles are NOT required. NFP is NOT Calendar Rhythm. The SymptoPro by Northwest NFP System, is based on the research of Dr. Josef Roetzer and is used throughout the U.S.
Does it work?
It can be highly effective for couples who are avoiding or achieving a pregnancy. Couples who are taught well, understand the method, are clear about their family planning intention, and carefully follow all the rules for avoiding a pregnancy all the time will experience a 98 to 99.9 percent effectiveness rate. Couples who occasionally do not follow all the rules for avoiding a pregnancy will most likely experience a pregnancy rate similar to condoms and other barrier methods of family planning.
Who can use NFP?

The Billings Ovulation Method™
is a simple yet scientific method of Natural Family Planning. Ongoing research has been conducted in Australia, Sweden and Spain since it was developed over 50 years ago by physicians John and Lyn Billings of Melbourne, Australia.
Couples using the Billings Ovulation Method™ track the woman's natural and unique signs of fertility and infertility each day. Based on the primary observation of sensation, four simple rules are applied within the woman's cycle (the first three rules are used before ovulation and the fourth rule is applied once the fertile phase is over) based on a couple's desire to achieve or postpone pregnancy.
