Do We Have a Heart for Christ?

Do We Have a Heart for Christ?

This weekend marks the beginning of June, the month dedicated to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. In times gone past, many Catholic families and homes were annually consecrated to the Most Sacred Heart but sadly like many traditional devotions this has diminished considerably. Maybe it’s because there simply isn’t enough awareness about it and clergy have forgotten to raise awareness of it and promote it. But there is always fresh opportunity and impetus to come to a devotion with new vigour and purpose.

For one thing making a novena or reciting a litany in honour of the Sacred Heart together as a couple or as a family would be a good place to start. HERE is a link to some ideal prayers which you can even download to your mobile

For your deeper edification, I highly recommend this beautiful letter of Pope St John Paul II marking the centenary in 1999 of the consecration of the whole of humanity to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. And when we think of the reflections of Pope Francis in Amore Laetitia on 1 Corinthians 13 and St. Paul’s ode to “love”, what his saintly predecessor says HERE is worth revisiting.

This following extract says it all:
This devotion, which "contains a message which in our day has an extraordinary timeliness", because "an unending spring of life, giving hope to every person, has streamed precisely from the Heart of God's Son, who died on the Cross. From the Heart of Christ crucified is born the new humanity redeemed from sin. The man of the year 2000 needs Christ's Heart to know God and to know himself; he needs it to build the civilization of love"

A blessed month of June to all!

Wow!!!  Yes, that is the correct word to begin this blog post!  I think I am still in shock!  On the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus our country just experienced the overturning of an almost 50-year-old law regarding abortion.  Roe vs. Wade was overturned!

“Love the skin you’re in!”  “Be yourself, everyone else is taken!”  “Be your own reason to smile!” “Love yourself!”  These are quotes I have heard all my life and have always hoped to achieve…I am sad to report, after 44 years, I don’t think I have gotten there…but…I’m not giving up!
