For most Catholics, Lent 2020 has been a Lent like no other. We have found ourselves giving up things we never thought of giving up, due to forced quarantines, lock-downs, lay-offs, and perhaps for many of our Catholic Marriage Prep couples, even wedding dates and receptions. The global pandemic, and our response to it, has made us reflect on our own mortality, our faith, and our priorities in life.
Not the Destination...
In Advent, while we think back to 2,000+ years ago when our Savior was born, we also think ahead to our future. We turn our gaze to the second coming of Christ, to our mortality, and to the judgment day after our death.
November as we know is the month of the Holy Souls. I've already had a stark reminder of the fragility of our mortality and the utter dependence upon God’s grace with the shocking news last week of the sudden death of a second cousin of mine.
