I SURRENDER...

surrender

2020 is officially over and guess what?  WE MADE IT!  I did not wait up until midnight to ring in the New Year, but I fell asleep on December 31, 2020 with a sense of accomplishment and I also fell asleep a different person than I had one year prior.  I remember ringing in the 2020 with my family and my best friends saying that the year would for sure be better than the previous year.  I had just resigned from my full-time job, excited to be able to focus more on my family.  I was three months away from heading to China to bring my new son home to our family.  My children were excited to spend more time with their mother and hope was in the air.

"It's Gonna Be Ok!"

Be-Ok

“It’s Gonna Be Ok!”  While I was driving in my car yesterday, I heard these words on the radio.  About a week ago, after going to the Sacrament of Reconciliation, I decided to change my radio station from country music to Christian music.  I realized that swearing had become commonplace in my life and I wondered if it was because of the music I was listening to.  Many of the songs on the radio had small swear words in them and I think my mind went numb to them.

Quarantine Life...Part II

image_67367425

I know some places around the United States still have not been able to venture out of their quarantine life at this point, however, us here, in North Dakota, have somewhat gone back to a bit of regularity.  We are back at church, (socially distanced, of course), we can eat at restaurants, kids have started back at school with a few precautions, people are moving about with a bit more ease.  We are still taking precautions, wearing masks, and not getting too close to large groups of people, but life was starting to feel a little bit better.  Our family was feeling a little bit more at ease.

Trust...It is the Truth

b2ap3_large_trust_2

In sticking with my theme of anxiety…I want to explore how trust, or lack there of trust, really affects my anxiety!  So, let us begin by looking at the definition of “trust”.

Trust: (noun) reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing.

In my walk of the Christian life, trust has also been something I have struggled with from time to time.  In fact, when I was 20, I directed a retreat and I got to choose my own theme for the weekend. In prayer, very quickly, the theme, “No Doubt”, came to me.  I choose a song for the weekend by a Christian band called Petra, also called, “No Doubt”.  (It is still one of my go to songs today when I am struggling!) My theme revolved around the story of Doubting Thomas and his doubt of the resurrected Jesus.   I had a beautiful banner made that had Jesus and Thomas embracing with the words: “My Lord and My God!” I have always thought Thomas got the raw end of the stick.  One time he expressed that he needed to see Jesus, and he was given the nickname of Doubting Thomas for the rest of eternity.  His words of “My Lord and My God!” have become a beautiful prayer that the Church still prays today.  Thomas had great faith in the Lord and in that weak moment of doubt I am sure he learned a lot.

Wow!!!  Yes, that is the correct word to begin this blog post!  I think I am still in shock!  On the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus our country just experienced the overturning of an almost 50-year-old law regarding abortion.  Roe vs. Wade was overturned!

The Catholic faith is a well-spring of knowledge.  It is chalked full of wonderful teachings, prayers, and devotions.  From birth, our parents are called to teach us the simplest of prayers and those prayers begin our beautiful relationship with Jesus himself. Most of us are baptized as infants, but before we receive Reconciliation and the Eucharist the hope is that our relationship with Jesus has turned into our own friendship…a beautiful, simple friendship. Catechesis and more Sacraments follow, all the while, growing that relationship with the Lord.
