Finding Mama Mary in the Rosary...A Journey (Article II)

rosary

As you know, I promised going on a little journey with Mary and some of my favorite mysteries of the Rosary.  This week I want to take us into my favorite mystery of the sorrowful mysteries.  I certainly do not want to overlook the importance of any of the mysteries, but there is certainly one that speaks most clearly to me and allows me to enter in more deeply.

Finding Mama Mary in the Rosary...A Journey

rosary

As a Catholic, I have gotten a lot of questions from non-Catholics revolving around my personal relationship with Mary, Queen of Heaven.  There is a great misunderstanding of who Mary, Jesus’ mother, and mine, is in the Christian world outside of the Catholic faith.  If I dare say so, I feel there is a huge, missed opportunity from those of other religions who do not take advantage of the beautiful relationship Jesus invites each of us to while He was on the cross.

Learning to Trust like Mary: A reflection on the Feast of the Annunciation

Henry_Ossawa_Tanner_-_The_Annunciation Henry Ossawa Tanner's The Annunciation

Every year on March 25th, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord, the mystery wherein God takes on flesh and comes to dwell in the womb of Mary. This mystery has always had a special place in Catholic devotion and piety. For one, we remember Jesus’ incarnation, the truth that God put on flesh and became man in Jesus Christ. In addition to this life-altering event, we honor Mary’s role in this whole drama we call Salvation History. That despite her confusion and the plans she may have had for her life, Mary gave her fiat, her total and complete yes, to her role in God’s plan of salvation.

Moon at her Feet

These last few days have seen some major media attention on the full lunar eclipse of the sun which passed through 10 different US states in the space of 90 minutes. An eclipse is always an impressive thing. One commentator in the US who witnessed it said it was "a religious experience."

Does the Church Respect Women?

Does the Church Respect Women?

Now that Pope Francis has made it clear there will never be women priests, it comes as a letdown for many.  It seems that we think that in order to have equality, women have to be able to do the exact same thing as men and vice versa. The problem is, men still can’t breastfeed or bear children, and women cannot insert sperm.

Wow!!!  Yes, that is the correct word to begin this blog post!  I think I am still in shock!  On the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus our country just experienced the overturning of an almost 50-year-old law regarding abortion.  Roe vs. Wade was overturned!

Who am I?  That is a question I have been called to ponder many times throughout my life.  Haven’t we all?  All over the world people ask: “Tell me about yourself!”  Job interviews, friendships, dating relationships…people want to know who we are!  I am a daughter, sister, wife, mother, lay minister, co-worker, friend, aunt…the list goes on and on!  All of these titles are true, they are all part of who I am, but they dull in comparison to my one true identity…I am a child of God, and I am a beloved daughter of the King, and He is well pleased with me!
